Angelo Mathews will captain the Sri-Lankans against Bangladesh in March for the ODI and test series while fellow countryman Thilan Samaraweera, has joined newly relegated Worcestershire in the County Championship.

The appointment of Mathews is for an 11-month period with options to be discussed after. Jayawardene was expected to step down as captain of the national side a few months ago and has still been chosen in the squad, but without the (c) next to his name. Jayawardene first captained Sri-Lanka in 2004, bringing an impressive tenure to an end. He is already a true great of Sri-Lankan cricket, along will another in the Sri-Lankan Test squad, Kumar Sangakarra.
